To upload photos you need to take a photography test to ensure you understand submission guidelines. Once approved, your photos are added to BigStockPhoto and when users download them, you earn 50 cents to $3.00 per download (or up to $60 for some downloads if you have elected to also sell photos under the Special Licensing agreements). They pay you by cheque or via Paypal or MoneyBookers. Upload a few hundred popular photos and you could find you have a nice recurring monthly income on your hands.

Dreamstime only accept quality-based photos for inclusion in their database and carefully review each application received. Shutterstock want your photos! Submit your photos to Shutterstock and get paid every time one of your photos is downloaded. Web designers, magazine editors, and other graphic artists purchase monthly subscriptions to Shutterstock to download photos from our site.
Shutterstock is different than other stock models in that buyers subscribe on a monthly basis and can download up to 750 images over the course of 30 days. This subscription model encourages buyers to download a greater volume of images than they would at most other agencies. Shutterstock pay you 25 cents every time one of your images is downloaded. Once you reach $500 in earnings, your commission goes up to 30 cents per download.

Competico claims to offer the world's leading online photography contests. Whether you've been on a family trip recently, captured a fun moment at a friend's birthday party or taken a funny shot of your pet, you can upload your photos and compete against photographers from all over the world, and gain not only recognition but the chance to win cash prizes too.
Prizes are given for the top 3 photos in each contest, plus bonuses for many more entrants (seems to be anything between 20 and 100+) with the size of the prize fund dependent on the number of entries. Each contest is limited to a fixed number of entries typically 150 or 200 but can be as little as 40, giving you a higher than usual chance of winning.
It's completely free to register and vote, whilst entering competitions involves a small fee per upload, usually $2 or $3. When you join you receive $3 free which you can use to take part in any of these contests.
