Travel Agency Work
According to a recent news snippet in the Daily Telegraph hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers are turning to home-working travel agents to book their trips, because they do not have the time or inclination to visit a high street retailer or trawl the internet for cheap deals.
Home workers operate flexible hours and are prepared to visit people at work or at home, or deal with them over the phone. They are often former travel agents who have working in shops, and are particularly popular among busy executives because they are prepared to see their clients at a time that suits them.
New research from Boston based Travel Counsellors, the country’s biggest home-working company with 750 sales consultants in Britain and Ireland, shows that it booked 183,838 Britons on trips in the 12 months up to June 30, up six per cent on the same period last year. The average booking was worth £1,742.
To join the team of over 900 Travel Counsellors you must have worked for four out of the past five years in a travel agency. Their Travel Counsellors have an average 19 years experience, many in managerial roles. Once you join they will help you develop further. They provide continuous training and support; the opportunity to participate in educationals and regular get-togethers including the company’s annual conference.
Hays Travel has 350 home-workers, mainly serving customers in the North-East with a minimum of two years ABTA travel experience. John Hays, the proprietor, said: “We’ve seen a huge growth in the number of people using our agents. Typically, they will be high-spending individuals who want a relationship with a consultant, someone who has time to talk to them and really get to know what they want from a holiday.
See http://www.travelcounsellors.co.uk/Careers and http://www.homeworking-haystravel.co.uk/ if you are interested in finding out about becoming a home based travel agent with one of the above companies. Alternatively, if you have at least 2 years ABTA experience, visit http://www.abta.com/vacancies.html or http://www.traveljobsearch.com for the latest home based vacancies.

You can also search the families on the list for suitable matches. easyaupair.com for example has over 7000 families worldwide looking for help.
Homesitting
As a homesitter, you stay in other people’s homes and care for their pets and possessions while the owners are away. Although for much of the time you are free to come and go as you please, you take on various responsibilities for the owner. You live in the client’s home (which maintains security). You keep the areas of the house that you use clean and tidy; take telephone messages; deal with callers; water houseplants and provide light garden care. If you are happy to homesit with pets or livestock, you care for them as instructed, maintaining their normal routines. Suitable particularly for people between the ages of 40 and 70, who are home owners and car drivers.
According to Homesitters Ltd, in 2003 the pay for a homesit without pets was £56.00 per week including holiday pay with extra payment for the care of pets, together with travelling costs and a tax free daily food allowance (£6.00 per day in 2003).
Homesitters Ltd was established in 1980 to provide a live-in housesitting service, available throughout the year, in England, Wales and Scotland. They have a network of nearly 1000 employees nationwide. All potential employees are subject to strict vetting procedures and they meet all prospective Homesitters to discuss homesitting in detail.
