Companies Offering Home Based Work

Virtually every newspaper and magazine has homeworking offers promising you that you can earn £££’s working from home as a homeworker. It is a sad fact of life that the homeworking sector attracts more than its fair share of con-artists. Before responding to offers of home based work from companies that advertise for homeworkers, check out our section on scams. It may prevent you from getting ripped off.

Generally you will be far better off going into business on your own as a freelancer, using the same skills you are offering to these companies, but if you prefer to test the water without a huge outlay, they can be a good starting point. Don’t however underestimate your own ability. If, for example, you can work from home making soft toys to a standard acceptable to a company, you can just as easily make them to sell yourself. Further details are provided elsewhere on this site.

Whilst not all the following sites are primarily geared towards home based work, all have featured suitable jobs for homeworkers. On general employment sites try keywords “home based” or “work at/from home”.

Many of these sites list freelance projects where you can not only offer your services, and set your rates but you also get to see the other bids to give you an idea of the going rate for the work, and also pick up tips on how to present your proposals. Usually any completed projects are rated, making it easier to get awarded future contracts.

SME Outsource offers you the chance to bid on a range of freelance projects. All existing bids are shown giving you a benchmark of pay rates. Only members can bid but anyone can view the contracts available. No project commission charges also make this an ideal way to outsource your own projects.

Peopleperhour.com is a new generation online marketplace matching freelance or self-employed professionals with project work, usually in small or medium-sized businesses (SME’s).

A skilled individual charging an hourly or fixed project rate is the perfect solution – but where do they find someone like you that can be trusted to do the job?

PeoplePerHour.com was created to address that problem. The site now features thousands of registered service providers covering skills from IT to Admin Support to Photography, Legal & Accounting, Translation work etc., all of whom are ready to bid for business. Each registered freelancer receives user ratings and the system enables potential employers to make well informed, unbiased selections.
